Acts of Service by Lillian Fishman
Did not finish book. Stopped at 30%.
In an impulsive moment, Eve posts nudes online, leading her into an affair with Olivia and Nathan and eventually becoming caught up in the events of their lives…
This one starts with a bang and then just…fizzles out - it feels as if the reader is thrown straight in at the deep end, but I can’t help but think that Fishman was going for some kind of provocative shock value over anything else, because beyond my initial thoughts of “wtf am I reading, this is going to be bracing if this is only the beginning…” the story rapidly turned out to be quite pedestrian. By a third of the way through, I realised that I had no interest in any of the characters, didn’t care what happened to any of them and had yet to encounter any of the radical or thought-provoking commentary promised by the blurb. So I DNFed. Granted, I did not read the whole book, but attempting to shock the reader through an unusual situation and illicit sex does not automatically turn into incisive commentary and nor does it compensate for a dull plot.
