Kant probably wrote this because he felt guilty about having destroyed all of the Western philosophy that preceded him, including Christianity, in his Critique of Pure Reason. In writing this "sequel" he abandoned all previous efforts at logical depth and thoroughness and adopted a lazy argument in favor of popular prejudice.
