I was expecting something funny, irreverent and satirical. It is funny and satirical but it is so much more. This book pulled me right in and held me tight the entire ride.

If you read the blurb, it sounds like what I expected. A few chapters in though and you start feeling just how brilliant it is. Fforde has managed to invoke so many polarising issues in a witty, inventive manner that disarms you and then kicks you in the face with its poweful, furry feet.

I love how he uses the rabbit to represent so many parts of society that are marginalised or not taken seriously, but really have the right ideas. The humans are either ugly, apathetic or weak. There are, of course, a few properly brave souls, as in real life. The build up to the Battle of May Hill is just perfect and then that ending! I am still reeling and a bit teary.

It's so hard to put just how amazing this book is in words. You just have to read it.
