I won a StoryGraph giveaway and am grateful for the chance to read this novella. It’s a sweet story about an outsider who buys a lighthouse on a whim with a plan to “fix it up” in a way that literally no one in the community has asked for. In comes Bruce to try to convince Simon (the newcomer) otherwise by way of getting to know the place and each other… intimately.
I don’t read a lot of this format, so admittedly found the insta-love and early, frank discussion about mental health a bit jarring… but also found the latter refreshing as a neurodivergent person myself. I found myself both wanting more story because I quickly found myself loving Simon and Bruce—and wanted to get more into the town—and also really appreciative of the change of pace from my typical reading.
I highly recommend this as a quick and cozy palate cleanser, particularly between heavier and/or slower-paced reads, if you like a bit of spice with the sweetness.
