I received an ARC from Abrams Books.
Having read past readers reviews, they have seen some of the things that I disliked about the book. For example, the majorly confusing time jumps and how the scenes just don't seem to connect. I couldn't finish the book because of these frequent problems, so I will review what parts of the book (the first 100 pages) of the book I did read.
I have to agree with a past reviewer when they wrote, "I had a very difficult time developing an appreciation for this book. I am sure, in large part, this is because I know very little of the true Kurdish situation or customs of that part of the world. That being said, by the time I reached the real story of the book, I was on overload from a lot of unnecessary descriptions and side commentary. There was a lot of important information here, but it was buried and you really had to hang in there to find it." Yep, that somes my problems up nicely.
I also agree with another reviewer that this is a great story, just not well-written.
I might attempt to reread it when it comes out (seeing that mine is uncorrected proof). I might even try to finish reading this one. However, I have so many books on my shelves as it is and they're stacking up because of this one. So I will set it aside for now.
