Wonder Woman: Warbringer by Leigh Bardugo
2.0
A strong start gives way to a weaker second half as the book relies more and more on slightly flat characters. Diana herself is well-realised, as is the new character Alia, but those around them tend to be one-dimensional. The story has some good hooks, including some cribbed from existing Wonder Woman stories (useful for bringing people in), alongside some additions or changes to the mythos which I would not mind at all making their way into the comics.
The plot is fun if predictable and, as is often the case, Bardugo's greatest strength lies in worldbuilding - Her Themyscira is beautifully-realised. Unfortunately, the story works best when it can play with the whimsy of Diana's world
Finally, I have to remove at least 1/4 star due to
