Lost Boy: The True Story of Captain Hook by Christina Henry

Did not finish book. Stopped at 21%.
I have simply decided that Christina Henry's books are just not for me. And neither are the vast majority of Peter Pan retellings, for that matter.

I can't pinpoint anything specifically wrong with this book (which is more than I can say for another or this author's books). In fact, as fat as Christina Henry's books go, it definitely seems to have the best reviews. But there's something about her writing style that doesn't vibe with me. And I didn't quite care for the characters either.

As always, Peter is a spoiled brat in almost any version of this tale there is, and even though I know to expect that, this time it just felt pointless. I understand this is meant to be like a villain origin story of some sort, except Captain Hook probably isn't the actual bad guy in this. So it's probably to be expected that Peter is just so...annoying. But it was hard to get past that, especially when I didn't care for Hook or any of the other characters either. There is only one Peter Pan retelling that I loved. Unfortunately, this book is not joining those ranks. I'm content to DNF and use my valuable reading time with other books.

I think others might enjoy this book, especially if they love Peter Pan. It's definitely a case of "it's not you, it's me." So don't let me deter you from reading it. But I think I'll pass on reading anymore of Henry's books for the time being. They're simply not for me.
