Overview
Read for a Lifetime is a statewide reading program that targets high school students. This initiative promotes the enjoyment of reading by encouraging students to read both classic and contemporary literature and rewards them for their efforts. By participating in the program, students develop a love of books and reading that will last a lifetime.

- Illinois high schools promote and encourage their students to read from the annual booklist of 25 titles, which represents a mixture of classic and contemporary literature.
- Certificates are given to each student who:
- Reads at least four titles from the posted booklist during the school year
- Reads all 25 books on the annual posted booklist.
- Reads at least four titles from the annual posted booklist all 4 years of high school.
- Reads all 25 books on the annual posted booklist all 4 years of high school.
- All certificates are signed by the Illinois Secretary of State and State Librarian.
Be sure to supply your school library (in Illinois) your completed challenge. The school library will then need to fill out the Final Reporting Form and submit it to the Illinois State Library ([email protected]).
