This is a silly collection of stories that will please Willem’s fans.

Typically I am a huge fan of Mo Willems but I thought this book was too long and most of my students are second language learners so I think a lot of the jokes will go over their heads. I need to read the first book in unlimited squirrels series and see if I like it better.

The story of the mystery reader is enjoyable, but more time should have been spent on that rather than all the additional material, which feel awkward as they repeatedly interrupt the story with other stories and jokes.
Ultimately, the audience is the *real* mystery reader, because I'm not sure who this is intended for.

An easy reader which models how to sound out words - kinda meta. Also, some really awfully wonderful awful jokes.

The Unlimited Squirrels are a funny group. They are perfect for new readers who want a book that has chapters and is a bit longer than many easy reading books. The (A)corny jokes are wonderful!

I really loved the parts where Mo visually demonstrates how to break down and sound out words. The speech bubbles literally force the reader to practice that skill while seamlessly wrapping it into the story. It doesn’t hurt that all three of my kids started to read on a stop sign, naming and sounding out the letters. So this has a personal resonance as well.

The story is busy, with lots of text bubbles, but I enjoyed the mystery reader element, as well as the sharing of the superpower. What a lovely way of looking at learning to read.

Several pages of bonus material at the end: extra short stories and jokes.

Squirrels. Who runs the books? Squirrels

I really liked most of the first half of this book, but some juvenile humor and some eye-brow raising non-fiction in the middle made it one of my least favorite Mo Willems books to date.

cute, timesome to read aloud, kids learning to read will love reading it on their own though
