Kinew might not write quite as well as he speaks, but he has interesting things to say, and unique perspectives to share. read more

This book is a testament to the strength of the human spirit and the power of love, demonstrated over and over again in each step along Wab Kinew's journey. I am always ambivalent about reading memoirs or autobiographies, reluctant to be drawn into a 'voyeuristic' role while the author examines his (or her as the case maybe) life. In this case however, I felt neither manipulated nor taken as witness. From the opening of the story to its end, Mr Kinew invites us simply to listen; and i found echoes of what he writes in my own thoughts and my own (very different) journey; and i found myself moved to re-affirm what he so powerfully expresses and embodies:
"We have a choice in life [...] whether we reflect the good around us or lose ourselves in the darkness."
"We have a choice in life [...] whether we reflect the good around us or lose ourselves in the darkness."

Wab Kinew came to speak at a staff event I attended, and he was an amazing speaker. While I didn't enjoy his book as much as his speech, he does have some very important messages that we would all benefit from listening to.

A tremendously powerful, and meaningful story by a gifted writer. Grateful to have shared in knowing the story of his experiences. Miigwech Wabanakwut!
