Slow, without a map and with lots of names and ideas thrown together without a specific understanding of what Foucault's ideas really meant. The illustrations can range from great to terrible. But they're mostly there to fill space and rarely provide content that helps understand Foucault's ideas.

It's fairly clear that Horrocks is more or less dismissive of Foucault's work, therefore an odd choice as author of this work. Equal parts passive attacks on Foucault's lifestyle and a keyword search of his theoretical points, the book suffices as a step better than Cliff's Notes for those who know semiotics but not Foucault. Frustrating, then, in what it omits, where it fails to explain, how it is more suffused with the controversies around his ideas. Horrocks concludes that few have done anything interesting with his work, saving final criticisms, then, for those who support this type of inquiry. Thanks, dude.
Hopefully the rest of the series is better, but maybe this is why Amazon offered it for free. . . .
