3.5 stars. I kinda wish I could've given it a higher rating, but a 4 star seemed too generous. I am wondering though, what the heck was that ending?

-SPOILERS AHEAD. BEWARE!!!-

I have never been so happy to see a killer get away with murder.

I'm not saying it's right, but damn was it satisfying.

I'm really intrigued to see where the conclusion is going to take these characters. Lizzie has gone to a dark path and I'm not sure where she is going to end up. Also I haven't read many books that doesn't have the happy couple end up together. I was really surprised, but in a good way. Ragan was brave and so far she's not wrapping things up in a neat, nice bow.

Color me impressed.

I can hardly wait for the next book in this series!

After the ambush of her fiance and others on the day that was supposed to be her wedding day, Lizzy is barely surviving. Her fiance lies in a coma and his prognosis isn't good. Then she is contact by a woman who fears for her life. It seems that four other classmates have recently died and the woman thinks that someone from their school is behind the deaths. When the woman herself is found dead just days later, Lizzie knows she has to help but if there is someone behind the deaths, it won't be easy to find the killer.

I don't think I like the direction that the author is taking this series. I don't understand why she wants to make things so dreary and hopeless.
And I especially hate that she killed Jared. What was the reason for that? Just so she could take Lizzy in this horribly sad direction?
The writing is good, but I'm giving it only three stars because I feel like the events of this book were solely to serve the purpose of the new depressing direction, and I don't like it.

.Lizzy Gardner book 5

Again, I love the main Characters in these books! The revenge storyline was thought provoking. I got a laugh out of the dog napping story. Heart break, edge of seat tension, and still glad there is a next book to read!

After the huge cliffhanger in Obsessed, it’s great to finally have the sequel! It starts a few months after the events of the previous one. Lizzy Gardner has pretty much gone into zombie mode after what should have been the happiest day of her life. She now lives for her work. Speaking about living, Lizzy has been staying at her sister Cathy Warner’s house. This doesn’t last for long, due to Lizzy’s animosity toward Cathy’s douche of a husband. Kitally invites Lizzy to stay at the former’s spacious house so Lizzy doesn’t have to spend money on rent.

Saying this is the lowest time in Lizzy’s life would be an understatement. She hasn’t been worse off since her abduction by the notorious serial killer Spiderman. I really don’t know how Lizzy is handling yet another crippling blow. Lizzy is so distraught that her work ethic is beginning to slide. For instance, she doesn’t work on infidelity cases, yet Lizzy is taking almost whatever case lands at her office lately. Lizzy’s sidekick, Hayley Hansen, wants to have a serious talk with her about it.

Hayley appears to be on a straighter route this time around (or as straight as she can get). I’m saying this because Hayley isn’t above taking justice into her own hands. She is some sort of vigilante now, preying on society’s filthiest. By now, Hayley’s confronted her own share of serial killers. Heck, even the Lovebird Killer (from A Dark Mind) was afraid of her! Hayley is not someone you’d want to mess with. She’s without doubt the most dangerous of Lizzy’s acquaintances. Hayley’s past is almost as dark as her boss’s. I find it surprising that Hayley hasn’t turned into a criminal for Lizzy to chase.

Kitally is also back again as Lizzy’s second assistant. She replaced Jessica Pleiss, who is almost a full-fledged FBI agent now. Having Kitally around is a huge help, as Lizzy’s investigation agency is drowning in cases. There are a handful of interesting ones throughout the book. One of them puts Kitally in pretty serious danger. I think she should have been harder to get the drop on. Kitally strikes me as someone as dangerous as Hayley. The book does reveal that Kitally is perhaps the most intelligent character. Kitally’s family is also significantly wealthy. That means Kitally doesn’t have to work, but she enjoys handling cases for Lizzy.

We meet the book’s main villain during the first chapters. However, Lizzy and co. don’t catch wind about her until around a third of the way through the book. Almost Dead makes no mystery of who this woman is, so I don’t consider it a spoiler to mention her name. She’s Jenny Pickett, a super-smart chemist. Jenny is sort of your typical nerd: a socially-inept recluse slash doormat. Jenny has few friends, and she often gets picked on by people. This has diminished by now, as she’s an adult. Adults don’t pick on each other like youngsters do. Anyway, Jenny has gotten tired of people disrespecting her. This drives her mission throughout the book.

New to the Lizzy Gardner series, Almost Dead has a second main villain. This particular one is a guy who hasn’t been seen or heard of since Abducted. He takes to stalking Lizzy, intent on taking revenge on her for a perceived wrong. As if Lizzy didn’t have enough on her plate! She’s dealing with so much stuff now. The book also goes in a direction I was hoping it wouldn't. It was a big disappointment for me. I like Lizzy, so I root for her to have a happy ending.

Although it started off on a high note, Almost Dead failed to exceed my expectations. The way things turned out didn't feel too good. This may be the most divisive installment of the series. If you like books with HEAs, brace yourself. You could be disappointed. Don't get me wrong, this book is enjoyable. I just wish things had turned out differently.

My rating: ★★★★
4 stars - Definitely enjoyed it!

This has been my least favorite Lizzy Gardner book. The last book ended tragically which carries over into this book. Lizzy begins to fundamentally change as a person and not for the better. Kit ally gets some much needed character development which is nice.
