Loved it!! Definitely my favourite one in the series so far. Overused trope, but I liked how Ms. James worked it out.
I'm very excited to read the rest of the series!

I enjoyed Duchess By Night more than [b:An Affair Before Christmas|896595|An Affair Before Christmas (Desperate Duchesses, #2)|Eloisa James|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1348363669s/896595.jpg|881786] (Book 2), but it still wasn't as good as [b:Desperate Duchesses|641455|Desperate Duchesses (Desperate Duchesses, #1)|Eloisa James|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1347643101s/641455.jpg|627645] (Book 1).
Using the cross-dressing trope to get Harriet to find herself again really worked for me, her self-discovery seemed more genuine than Poppy's.
I did think Strange's attraction to Harriett/Harry was a bit, well, strange. His mindset seemed to be something along the lines of "I think this guy is attractive, I must be turning gay in my old age."
I'm also really starting to like Isidore and Villers, looking forward to their books!

RATING: 3.5 stars.
Took a while to get into it, but it's a cute book (if a book too mushy).

I really do love this series. I love that each one is distinctly unique not only in the 'drama' but the characters likes/dislikes, personalities, and I really love that 'thing' in each one. The chess, the hair, the clothes etc. it's so cool to see things in historical romance books that add to the culture and time period that aren't just balls and scandals.
I loved her as Harry, and I loved her as Harriet. I think so far she's my favourite female. I'm worried I won't like the next book because I really disliked Isidore in this one. I'm interested in her husband however because I'm all for a not so refined gentleman. Maybe why I liked the hero in this book too? I liked that he had scandalous balls and spent time with people 'lower' than him. I would have liked it better if he didn't lump all the people 'higher' than him into the snob category, but you win some you lose some.
Also, I was SO terrified for his child that I was distraught and nearly hysterical that whole scene. I don't know if I've ever felt so relieved when reading a book!

I really liked this book except the heroine was rather boring.

Gave three stars – simply out of personal preference. I don't care much for the lady-dressed-as-young-man-mustn't-be-discovered trope. Also felt the first half of the book was very slow, but picks up pace later and although hero's psychology wasn't entirely convincing I enjoyed the second half very much.
