This is one of the better books I’ve read about emotional eating; it provides a lot of soothing, nourishing, and gentle insights about what really nourishes us as women and what’s really going on with what people usually describe as “emotional eating.” There are stories in here that I’ve never come across before and some other ideas that I hadn’t considered, and some ideas that seem to fit so well that I’m amazed I didn’t think of them before. But that’s how blind spots work, I guess. What’s in this book is useful for any woman, not just one who might have some issues with food. Here’s a hint - your issues about food aren’t about the food at all, but how you interact with food points to what you really need. I’ll be reading this book a few times most likely for both pleasure and knowledge.

Some of this was beautifully insightful and written in a fun and whimsical way. The rest was too woo-woo for me, and from what I understand, a lot of the information is outdated and did not age well.

This was a book that I found personally and professionally interesting. It had some new ways of looking at the way women develop different eating and diet habits.

Great for anyone struggling with disordered eating if any kind or if you know someone who struggles. Stories that hold your attention and parcel out important life lessons that show being a women who is accepting of her own emotions is the most powerful way to overcome food obsessions. There are so many pieces of information that I will take from this book that were explored in such creative and memorable ways. Highly recommend.

This is a beautifully written book. Johnston uses storytelling and practical tools to help women work through their troubled relationship with food. My only criticism is that her approach is a bit too simplistic and doesn't offer enough step-by-step info that lends to actual behavior change. I see this is a great tool for clinicians as well as patients in treatment.
