Another fun episode in the Horowitz murder series. I hope in the next one we can get the wife’s perspective on how she was *so chill* about the whole “my husband didn’t tell me he was accused of murder and spent a night in jail then ran away for a bit” thing.

Easy read, not terribly complicated murder mystery. Kinda fun to read him sometimes.

I find it difficult to concisely explain why I have a love/hate relationship with the Horowitz/Hawthorne murder mystery series but it feels like uncanny valley when the main character/narrator is a fictionalized version of the author himself. Like, is he being truthful or self-aggrandizing? How much of the story is real and how much is made-up? Anyway, if you enjoy British murder mysteries with a dash of social commentary and pop culture asides, this might be the book series for you.

Is "metafiction" a word? Because it should be. There needs to be a word to describe Horowitz's writing in these Hawthorne and Horowitz books. We have a mystery writer writing about a mystery writer (himself) who doesn't want to write any more books with Hawthorne, but then finds himself the prime suspect in the murder of a very unpleasant woman and needs Hawthorne to solve the mystery. It would be easy to get lost among all the self-references, but the book is fun to read. Given Horowitz's career as a writer for TV and the stage, I keep wanting to look up the names he drops to see if they are real. He gives us insight into his world as a writer, while keeping us, strictly speaking, in the realm of fiction. At least, I hope it's ultimately fiction!

This book's meandering plot kept me wondering, "so, is this person the killer?" Another great book from Horowitz.

Not as good as his other books in this series, but still an entertaining read.

I adore Anthony Horowitz and all of his books and this one was no exception. The Hawthorne and Horowitz series is twisty and funny at turns and also featured another mystery that kept me guessing until close to the end. I loved peeling back a bit more of Hawthorne's past. The way it concluded makes me think that there will be more in the series, which I am definitely here for.
