I have to agree with everyone that this is the best of the series. The reason why is due to this being the least antagonistic the two mains have been to each other. The last chapter, while needed, nearly spoiled the book for me. It went back so easily to antagonistic and I wish they weren't. I get he wants to break the formula while still having Watson and Holmes style, but they worked because they were friendly towards each other. It might have been an act for the agent but eh. I look forward to the next book.

Love this mystery series. I was a little confused and realized I skipped book 4 on accident. A good plot and involved author’s real life works in the murder plot. I thought the suspect was done for but the twist was good. Hawthorne is growing on me in each book. He definitely nags at Anthony the narrator in the book. Very meta fictional.

This dude was fully in jail overnight and his wife just didn’t know??? This is the most unbelievable part of the story for me.

Yet another amazing addition to the Hawthorne and Horowitz series. This one combined two of my favorite things: true crime and theatre! With modern mysteries I feel like they are fairly easy to guess who the killer is but this one had me guessing until the culprit was revealed! I’m so glad I got this book early from the UK because it was well worth it. What I love even more about Horowitz’s mysteries is he gives the reader every piece to solve it themselves and if you’re reading carefully you can solve it (faster than Cara usually), but this one stumped me. I loved it and I’m so glad there’s more to come.

Solid and entertaining entry in the Hawthorne series. I listened to the audiobook, which was an excellent production.

sometimes it’s very clear that horowitz has apparently described himself as “vaguely conservative” - no big homophobia moments from hawthorne this time, but i rolled my eyes at the cultural appropriation section that horowitz wrote in what feels like a defense of himself and all other old middle aged white writers. anthony you can write whatever you want but you have to be respectful about it! no need to get up on your fictional soapbox!
