I liked this one, never read anything by the author before but I liked the description so I gave it a go. The description and storytelling were immersive and plot enjoyable. A nice way to recover from Christmas dinner, if historical crime is your thing.

All I wanted was a good Christmasy murder mystery to get me into the festive season. This, unfortunately, was the wrong choice.

My first Railway Detective novel. Enjoyable and I liked the humour but it's not the sort of whodunnit where there was a shock reveal or twist, more that the police eventually came to the right conclusion. It seemed to obvious that it wasn't one of their top suspects as the motives were weak so it was quite easy to guess the culprit. So the reveals seemed a bit of a damp squibb.

This has Christmas. This has a murder mystery. What else does one need this time of the year? :D
Thoroughly enjoyed this book and loved the characters. Would love to meet Colbeck and his people again!

While the murder in this book was gruesome especially with how it was described at times and what was done to the body after the murder. It got to be a bit much at times I’m not going to lie. The actual detective work was very long and drawn out and had me not really enjoying the story very much. So much focus was put on the character's personal lives that I didn’t know about because of the fact that this was the 15th book in a series which I didn’t realize until I started reading it.
I did find it interesting how they were able to connect everything together and finally figured out who did it after thinking it was a handful of other people first.
If you’ve already read most of the series I can see how you would love this book, it just wasn’t one that kept me captivated throughout all of it.
