This topsy turvy modern day fairy tale collection followed after I recently read a poem that seemed to fit it on Facebook by @srwpoetry. It goes like this:
sometimes the hero stumbles
and falls right off the page.
sometimes the princess rolls her eyes
and says, "i don't want to be saved."
sometimes the dragon needs rescuing
and the vision aches to be helped.
sometimes in the darkness,
the list boy finds himself.
sometimes the princess is cunning
and not at all what he seemed.
sometimes the witch's kindness
shows it's she who deserves to be queen.
sometimes we shouldn't define people
by someone else's point of view --
just because it's what we've been told
doesn't make our t r u e.

This anthology includes diverse retellings of well-known fairy tales. Most are solid, with the best ones being “Red Riding Hood” and “Hansel and Gretel.” The “Beauty and the Beast” story is also very solid, with a tragic ending I was not anticipating. The weakest ones are the gender bent “Sleeping Beauty” which did not make much sense and “Rapunzel” which had a very ambiguous ‘Was This a Dream’ type ending.

Incredible, these stories was amazing and way better than the originals, they all had spark and so much emotion. I loved that the characters all a had blooming fire within themselves!
