My favorite stories were Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid, Rumplestiltskin, and Hansel and Gretel.

Woah, this really did take some of the stories we know in a different direction! Some of these I really enjoyed, others were more odd. My least favorites were Sleeping Beauty Beauty and the Beast & Rapunzel. Just not my taste. Favorites include Hansel and Gretel & Peter Pan. Great diversity in this collection! Although it was shelved at the library as Juvenile (middle grade) I feel some of the topics make it more solid YA. Topics can lightly include incest, rape, and infidelity.

I really love fairy tale retellings, especially ones that bring something new, and these definitely did. They were all just interesting and compelling and brought new perspective, and I am so glad I picked this up.

Classic fairytales, each with a twist. Recommended for Middle Schoolers.

** I read an advance reader copy of this book. **
This is a fun and dark series of fairy-tale retellings. Some were better than others but all were well written and thoughtful. I really enjoyed this collection and would recommend it to anyone who loves fairy tales or fantasy, especially of the darker type.

i found it to be a nice and interesting retelling of the old fairy tales we all know. loved the little mermaid version giving a voice to ursula’s perspective. my favorite part of each story was how they’d preface with “though this story was meant to be a teaching for children the real version was meant for adults to learn”. short, sweet, and straight to the point

I enjoyed many of these retellings, in particular, I loved the Hansel and Gretel in that the witch was actually their mother... I was sad about the Beauty and the Beast one and happy at the same time... lol... the Peter Pan one was ok, and I know nothing about Blue Beard but loved that one!
