I made the mistake of reading this before the Sinner to Saints series, so I was unaware of the history of the parents from that series. I also read Forbidden Love as my first ever book my LJ and
4.5 stars****
It would have been a 5 star read if one of the main characters didn’t act the way she did. She thought everyone was against her and was out to get her, but they didn’t know she doesn’t talk or express her feelings out to anyone and just bottle things up and get all “hulky” if Daria acted like a regular person and not the way she was in the book I would rated a solid five stars

The first half of this book I didn't like but the second half was really good.

Daria and Penn met 4 years ago. A day before Penn's twin went missing. Fast forward to 4 years now and he is her foster brother. Goodness, the hate to love sexual tension burning between them is insane because he is here for vengeance… or was he? 🔥
I absolutely giggled every time they used "Marx" instead of "god" because that was hilarious 🤣. Penn could definitely see through her BS and ugh she had the worst girlfriends at school. SMH. Poor kid! I just wanted to hug Daria tight and tell her, "You're not alone, kid" 🥺.
I liked Dad Jamie being her anchor when she needed him, and towards the end, her parents were pretty badass 💥. The spice is fluffy and I love love love the ending 💖. I think this is my first LJ Shen read? 🤔.
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. Thanks LJ & Booksprout.

Why did I read this? Why do I torture myself by reading books I don’t think I’m going to enjoy? One of life’s infinite questions.
This book was not good. To be frank, it was a goddamn mess. There were parts that made absolutely no sense. First, characters reacted to things that had no context and purpose. I rooted for not a single character in here because they were all flaming bags of horse shit.
Second, these kids (yes KIDS) are in high school. I’m sorry, I don’t want to read detailed sex scenes from high schoolers. But honestly, these kids could have been 30 based on how they acted. I’m convinced that LJ Shen has never been around a high schooler in her life. It was wildly unrealistic and massively uncomfortable.
Lastly, the final villain in the story, the person who gets no redemption arc, is literally indistinguishable from the rest of the characters. They had just as much trauma (maybe more) as all the other characters yet we were suppose to cheer their demise? Yikes.
I don’t know how this book has such high ratings. I don’t know why people are ok with this quality of writing. We deserve better folks. We can have steamy scenes and quality writing at the same time.
