I gotta say, Zink is really pushing her shtick to a breaking point here. A sort of mirror novel to Mislaid, in that it's kind of a campus novel, except this time told from the outside, but still very interested in the positionality of class and femininity in relationship to blowhard intellectuals. It feels a bit structureless at times, a receptacle for Zink's foibles and snipes, which to be fair, are one of the compelling facets of her best work. I dunno, I'm hoping she has another great work coming soon!

Unfortunately this book didn’t really capture me in any way. I continued reading hoping to get something from it, it’s an easy read and I’m sure it will be a big hit for some but just not for me this time. Thanks to the author, Faber and faber and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this.

terrible. not in the sense that it was bad, but in the sense that it was true and real. I hate the ending, but not as much as I like its painfully and honestly abrupt finish. never read a book like this before.
