Spoilers.

I really don't know how to feel about this book having just finished about 3 minutes ago. I started it perplexed by it's wordyness but somehow felt the pull to keep reading and find out what happens next. After all, this was from all first impressions, a book about murder. The SA details were very graphically described but also not at the same time. It's almost like the violence of the assaults were alluded to, but never actually stated outright.

This, I believed, was the catalyst to some character development from the protagonist. But the fact it did very little to dissuade her from feeling things for this man, and also that it described her as being killed multiple times only to have her not be dead was confusing to me.

I think the babysitter storyline could have been delved into more, instead we were trapped in a hazy head that didn't know what she was experiencing and didn't know what to make of it.

The ending was disappointing considering how much I was expecting from this book. I am not 100% sure whether I hated it or loved it.

My first JCO and won't be my last. The writing was fantastic but the story was dark, dark. At points I had to skim read because it was too much. Definitely recommend checking the trigger warnings for this one.

Loved the writing style and exploration of themes but I didn’t feel like there was a resolution at the end.

Thank you Netgalley and Publisher for this Arc.

There is no doubt that this is a good book, particularly for those who are interested in very intense literary fiction.   This covers, in some detail, different aspects about the serial killer Babysitter's case.  Taking place in 1977, following a housewife who is used to the rich side of life and the start of an affair.  It's a combination of the two stories, really.

This books says a lot about so many hot topics but while the author is showing and telling the different sides to this story it comes with a lot of triggering details.

I had a really hard time reading this one.

Trigger Warnings for: Racism, Child sexual assault, murder, violence, rape... also I just want to add that there is a lot of disturbing imagery.
