A stunning collection of poetry focusing on the new cross massacre and Grenfell Tower. I always believe that listening to poetry is the best way to digest it, and through listening to Surge I got to hear and feel the emotion of the poetry. Some of the poetry is also closer to music so listening to it, you get a better sound of the rhythmic pacing, compared to reading it.
Graphic: Death, Gun violence, Hate crime, Racism, Violence, Police brutality, Grief, Murder, Fire/Fire injury, and Colonisation

Rating: 4/5. I highly recommend listening to the audio version if you can!!! My favourite poems were ‘songbook’ (i&ii) and the diptych ‘+’ and ‘-‘!

This is an incredible book of poetry and one I don't feel like I am entirely done with. It speaks to something forgotten unjustly and thus it sticks with you long after you finish it.
I think it is a work that demands a certain amount of involvement from its reader but it delivers in accordance with your effort.
It ranges through a multitude of topics but never once does it come across as anything other than entirely earnest. It is frank and honest and it demands to be revisited.
