I don't know quite what to think about this mystery. It feels like pastiche, with the primary forefathers being Conan Doyle, Stout and another author vaguely tapping at the back of my brain. The writing is plain, but perhaps that's more the translation than the original. However, when the blurb says "gripping", that's far from the case. Interesting, yes. Almost a cozy, with subliminal references to other mysteries, other detective series, yes. But not "gripping."

A pretty good mystery - I couldn't get quite as into it as I would have liked but it was enjoyable and the twist at the end was well played.

I'm not much of a detective novel reader neither do I read much historical fiction, which this is.
The writing was very accessible and easy to fly through. The story wasn't particularly captivating but kept you somewhat interested. I never found myself invested in any of the characters though or guessing along as to who the murderer was and such.
Still a solid read.

I've always had a thing for detectives. They can be so mysterious and intriguing, wrapped up in themselves and always in love with the unknown. That's why I picked up this book. (and because of its gorgeous cover!)
I liked it and I certainly don't regret reading it but I won't read it again.
I loved the setting, the dangerous and dimmly lit corners and alleys, the mysterious history of the Eiffel tower. Also the relationship between the detectives and their assistants was very interesting and novel.
But the plot was boring and predictable.
Still an enjoyable read for quiet nights with lots of tea and good music.

A well written murder mystery set in Paris with a sense of Agatha Christie about it. It was an enjoyable and easy read, but it wasnt gripping enough and anyone could see the final twist pretty much from the very beginning. It did get very confusing at times of all the 12 Detectives and their assistants, and who was who. If you like old fashioned murder mysteries then this is the book for you.
