Such a dark world that’s been created so definitely look at the trigger warnings. But I was captivated by Maya’s story and had to know what happened

This was such a gripping read. There were one or two moments where I thought “how does that even work?” So I docked 1 point of logic, meaning it narrowly missed a 5 star rating. However, I absolutely loved this book. The storytelling was so immersive and, despite not having proper chapters, I found it so easy to read.

I finished this in one day. The story is like a criminal minds or SVU episode. What makes it unique is you read it from two different perspectives, the detectives POV and the main character, so you're not sure who to trust and what actually happened. I really liked it, it kept you guessing up until the end.

To me this started slow but picked up into part 2 and finished strong. This plot was so weird and dark but has so many beautiful moments too. I liked the representation of chosen family and the depth of the Gardener and his sons and that power dynamic of needing his validation. I know some ppl don’t like the twist at the end but I personally did. I did not enjoy the pov switch from Inara first person to the other pov being just 3rd person. I get they wanted the contrast probably to represent her storytelling from them being in the “interview” but it read weird to me.
