I struggled to finish this. I'm going to give Truly Devious a chance since fans say that series is similar and way better than this, which I hope so because, going by this book, I'm not sure if this author might be for me.
This book's plot starts way too late. Not only that, but the mystery was just soooo bad. It was bad because we barely got any information whatsoever until the very end, when the culprits are suddenly already revealed and you're just left confused. If the culprits ended up being four penguins in a trench coat, you still wouldn't have guessed it, but it doesn't make it a good twist. That's this book. Definitely skip this book. It's boring, barely anything happens until the last third, and the culrpits are just a bunch of randos--there were no substantial hints that would have mde it possible for you to try to figure out the twists by yourself before the characters spelled it out. I hate this kind of writing.
Also, we spent the whole book hyping up the FMC and this one girl she's been hanging out with and having cute moments with, and then she ends up with a character who had barely any screen time from the start of the novel. Why would the author do this?? That's like if instead of Edward from Twilight, Bella ended up dating Extra #5 at the end. What was the thought process here?
Anyway, really shitty pointless book about a bunch of teens doing random shit. I wish I could get the time back I spent reading this. Doing random shit with a bunch of characters does not make an engaging story make, even if the characters are quirky. Also, if you're giving them a backstory or interesting info, it doesn't really do anything by itself. It needs to have a point.
Sadly I forgot the names of the culprits because I read this a few months ago, but that's how pointless and forgettable these characters were. Even if I old you their names and motivations (which barely exist), you wouldn't feel satisfaction anyway, Truest me.
