This book was....interesting. I must say, I didn't really see anything coming, which I love about Agatha Christie's books. At this point, I've actually read enough of them that, towards the end, I, with no actual evidence against them, pick one of the least likely characters, and I have been right, but not this time. It was a shocking and well written book, although it includes murder, so obviously, it does have that depressing factor. I would recommend to all mystery lovers.

"How true is the saying that man was forced to invent work in order to escape the strain of having to think."

Do not open your heart to evil…. If you do, evil will come. Yes, very surely evil will come… It will enter in and make its home within you, and after a little while it will no longer be possible to drive it out.”

Another engaging read with M. Poirot! I really liked the premise of this one with the love triangle. Though,
is it believable that hot-blooded Jacqueline would allow Simon, the man she deeply loved, to have marital relations with Linnet? Not so sure.

At this point I don’t even try to figure out the mystery, it’s so complex. I just sit back and watch in awe as Christie unravels her web of intrigue.

It isn't for nothing that Agatha Christie is considered the best writer of mystery ever.
The plot goes on a continued crescendo, plot twist and incriminatory acts appear here and there, and when you are sure you know who was, something new appears, until it is almost the end. Then, the stakes get higher, and you start feeling everyone could be guilty, Poirot shows off and says who was. The whole story makes sense, yet there are pages left, and what could have end with the story gently declining, ends in the highest, most thrilling note of a gripping crescendo.

One of the greatest mysteries ever written. Poirot at the height of his powers and genius. A classic by any measure and a pure joy to read. 5 stars!

While the Christie detective genre is not for me in print form, this book was very well-read by the gentleman who played Hercule Poirot in the BBC programs based upon the books. You are getting a book read by an actor, who has done the best job so far of any reader in an audiobook of differentiating characters and putting life into the dialogue. Match that with the soap-opera quality of the writing, and it makes for some really fun commuter listening. I could see myself listening to all of the Poirot novels as background noise during the morning commute.

I would not enjoy it as anything other than beach/last-ditch reading in print, though.
