This book gave me so much to think about, mostly as it relates to my job as a math coach. I have so many ideas about how I want to approach my work this next year but also an idea I’ve had on the back burner for a while might be starting to gain steam.
I think every math teacher should read at least one of Boaler’s books and parents of school age children should pick up this one. I was lucky enough to learn how to be a math teacher from Boaler way back when and she is an inspiring teacher.

Kept my interest enough for me to finish it. It was a nice feel-good book, some of it was super interesting and informative, while other parts felt like they didn't have enough evidence. It definitely inspired me to change my mindset though.

From a topic I did not expect to enjoy I rushed through this book in less than a day. Author Jo Boaler discusses the importance of learning about brain plasticity and the fixed growth mindset. She then uses those principles to discuss how we can further our knowledge in math in particular. I found this book so inspiring and should be required reading for all students! I feel like I would have succeeded a lot more in math class in high school had I engaged with math this way.

So technically this was a read for study rather than pleasure. However, I got great pleasure from it, thanks geek brain.

Jo Boaler is a university professor and educator as well as being an author. Her brilliant book brings cutting edge brain science into an accessible format, listing six key principles for learning, leading and living a limitless life.
.
I love learning and this book has taught me how to better engage my learners through work as well as improve my own experiences. I would highly recommend this to anyone in the field of education or with an interest in their own learning. As you can see I've tagged one or two pages to revisit!
.
The principles that resonated with me most are, our brains aren't fixed - we can learn anything, mistakes are good for growth, and it is creativity and flexibility not speed that best enables us to learn. Never let anyone, including yourself tell you that you can't do or aren't good at something, we are limitless!
