This was a fun one. Many good storylines. Highlighted much of the best of the characters: Mma Ramotswe's dedication to her family, her heritage and her country; Mma Makutsi's moments of vanity and vulnerability; JB Matekoni's kindness and love. Mma Makutsi is still finding her way toward marriage with a mistake with a bed that threatens to cause bad feelings. Mma Ramotswe's makes a mistake with a case that could devastate two people. And someone may be threatening the agency. Is it an enemy or worse, a friend?

More feel good stories from Botswana--the #1 Ladies Detective Agency handles cases involving the reunion of an orphan with her brother, a series of poison pen letters, encounters with nemesis Violet, a very tacky velvet bed purchased by Mma Makutski as part of her romance, and newly adoptive father Mr. J.L.B. Matekoni being suckered by a faith healer to help his wheelchair using daughter. As always, honesty is the best policy, but only when delivered with tact and grace.

I like the way we live through the thoughts of the main female characters Mma Ramotswe & Mma Makutsi. All of his novels give you insight into the completely different world of Africa. Although this was not one of my favorites of the series, it still is worth reading.

Always a pleasure to visit with old friends, and after several years of reading about the adventures of Mma Ramotswe and her colorful entourage, that's exactly what this installment in the series feels like. Funny and thought provoking as usual, with a main mystery that hits particularly close to home for the characters and develops several of them really well. Great plot twist at the end, too!

I LOVE these books and think you can't go wrong by meeting Mma Ramotse! These are quirky, enjoyable, feel-good novels. They give a complex look into daily challenges and interactions with other people, while still being very simple, enjoyable, books. This series has heart and I read them just as soon as they come out!

I actually listened to this one in the car on rides to and from the hospital. I love that the books are well written and enjoyable for myself, while still being interesting to my children. I never have to worry that something offensive or inappropriate is going to come up while listening to these near little ears.

This is one of my favorite series. I finally caught up with the author and now have to wait for the next book.

I used to devour this series, but got away from it for a while. After reading the Tannie Maria mysteries, I think I've decided I like my Africa-set mystery stories with a little more, well, mystery. Yes, I enjoy the characters but I feel like McCall Smith has been writing them for so long with so little change that they have become caricatures. This one seemed especially slow moving. I can't decide if the later books have gotten slower or if I just enjoy them less. Also, all of these easy resolutions with no consequences - not my favorite. I do still think the writing is beautiful and gives you that noble, peaceful feeling (and makes you want to travel to Botswana), but I don't think I'll be clamoring to read more in the series.
