I liked it, but I think it was one of those intermediary books that lays the foundation for future additions to the series. A lot of time was spent creating, then playing with, a complex political world spanning earths and species. The first book was so enjoyable because of its sarcasm, humor, and exploratory nature. This book had some of that, but was more philosophical. Curious to see how The Long Mars builds on this.

I really didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one. While it was a good enough description of the evolution of humanity in the long earth it felt a bit disjointed at times and indeed some of the pivotal moments felt rushed. I also felt the book lacked the major presence of lobsang. If I am honest the ending with another major catastrophe all be it a natural one this time felt a bit like a formula which actually I felt the book had avoided up to this point by not simply being a story about another Lobsang and Joshua adventure in the long earth.
Still worth a read but not as strong as the first book.

A story about how prejudice and how it will always be a problem worth fighting over and how war can be overcome peacefully.

I thought it was stunning, I loved the way that the ideas and concepts that were introduced in the Long Earth were explored in further detail.
I loved the idea of all these separate narratives going on on a myriad of worlds and the idea of the lack of balance and the problems encountered. I've seen people say nothing happens. This isn't true, there is a lot happening and on a huge scale.
Blown away by the ambition of this series. Can't wait for the next installment.

Well that's the last of this series I'll be reading. Not awful, but ultimately just not enough to really be compelling.

I enjoyed the first book. This one felt like an exercise in world building and cool ideas that did not make it into the first book. If this were music it would be relegated to b-sides. It isn't until half through that it gets interesting. The ending sets up an interesting premise for another book. Overall pretty mediocre followup. Bonus points for GK Chesterton references though. Negative points for no war or conflict of any magnitude. 2 1/2 stars.

Slow start but a wonderful finish
I enjoyed this the second in the long earth series. It started out a little slow but it eventually got going. I can't tell you when it was finally getting good. The war is as expected not much of one. In fact you could say the title is wrong. That is my other complaint is the title. I would recommend this to others!!!

This honestly didn't live up to the first one for me. I found that the story dragged more in the middle than I wanted. I liked the Long Earth a lot and the multiverse theory they had in place, but this just didn't live up to the same expectations that I had for the first one.
