Es war einfach zu langweilig. Obwohl Schätzing das mittelalterliche Köln sehr anschaulich, atmosphärisch und kundig schildert, hält das Buch leider nicht was es verspricht. Von Spannung und einer verzwickten Intrige keine Spur. Die Figuren sind leider zu hölzern, die Geschichte auf den ersten Seiten schon absehbar.
Darüber hinaus fühlen sich die Figuren wie moderne Menschen in der Kleidung des Mittelalters an. Das Denken, Fühlen und Selbstverständnis des mittelalterlichen Menschen muss man woanders suchen.

Forse manca quel tocco in più per essere uno storico giallo storico, tutto sommato però mi aspettavo di meno. Schatzing ambienta questa storia di violente guerre fra nobili e clero proprio prima della sesta crociata, nella sua città natale, Colonia. E'originale la scelta del personaggio principale, diabolica quella di Jaspar, forse un pò stereotipata quella del "demone" Urquhart. Insomma una lettura piacevole ma non memorabile.

I'm sure the history is well researched and it is quite interesting in fact ... however, it tends to get in the way of a gripping story.
