Some of the stories were just too creepy for me. But a few were absolutely stellar, so it balanced out. Happily, the best ones, for me, were the last few, so I’ll give it 3-1/2 stars.

Despite not being a huge fan of short stories, I did enjoy this book. Very much of their time, Agatha Christie's stories are still very readable today.

One of my favorite favorites in this series was Philomel Cottage. But most of them were fine and a couple felt quite dated.

Nice little collection - mind you, this is overall rating and individual story ratings are on the "Christie" scale. Overall, still very enjoyable.

Witness For the Prosecution: 4.5/5
- That final punch though!

The Red Signal: 3/5
The Fourth Man: 2.5/5
- This one seemed kind of far-fetched

SOS: 3/5
Wireless: 3.5/5
-Predictable but great build-up

The Mystery of the Blue Jar: 4/5
-Simple but loved the wit

Sing a Song of Sixpence: 2/5
Mr Eastwoods Adventure: 2/5
Philomel Cottage: 4/5
Accident: 3/5
The Second Gong: 4/5
Have yet to start on the Poirot stories, but this one made me excited!!

A handful of stories are subpar or repeat plot devices, but overall, this is an excellent anthology. I especially appreciated when a story gave me chills or genuinely surprised me. Agatha Christie has proven herself as both a novelist and as a short story writer.

I love Agatha Christie's short stories - she does a terrific job packing mysteries with real punches into short chapters. Some of the stories in this volume, "Witness for the Prosecution," "The Blue Jar," and others, do a great job of providing red herrings and misdirection to keep the reader guessing. I also liked that in some of the stories the bad guys win - not something that happens often in her books. One of my favorite stories is "Philomel Cottage" - I like the way the narrator (also named Alex!) develops over the course of the story.

I enjoyed the audiobook narration. Listening to Christopher Lee's sonorous voice for hours is not a bad way to spend a car trip! The other narrator is very good, too.

Enjoyed a few, particularly "Accident" was wonderfully executed, but towards the end they start to feel a little too similar to each other.
