IT"S VONNEGUT - what's not to like?? of course it's funny. of course it's also simultaneously deep. that's always a winning combo in my book.

granted i'm partial to the subject matter here- abstract expressionism and new york as the backdrop for a fake memoir? YES. in the end bluebeard is about love, loss, finding your artistic voice and passion... all things that flutter around the recesses of my brain on basically a daily basis. and real or not, the rise, fall, and development of rabo as an artist/human is definitely worth a look.

Entertaining but bounces all over time, and is a little vague.

First-person narrative about the life of a lonely Armenian artist in the 1980s. I really loved this story.

Rabo. A fake autobiography but so perfectly done. Feels authentic as if an old artists truly were rambling on his life. Circe and Rabo are flawed and authentic and real and lovable. The subtle and not so subtle commentaries on human nature, gender equality, and conflict were done so well. I cannot think of what might have improved this book.

Liked this one a whole lot! Read all of his "classic" novels when I was a lot younger so now reading through the rest of his books can sometimes be hit or miss, but this one is a winner! Rabo is a great, cantankerous protagonist, and as always Vonnegut is a master of blending humor and pathos together to drive his point/satire home, in this case delving into what gives creative art it's value/meaning.

circe berman legend that you are <3 anyways i absolutely loved this and i should've read it ages ago, especially before deciding whether or not to go to school for art. vonnegut always has such a skill for character building, but i think this might be some of his best. did not read like many of his other works but i loved loved loved it. cried!
