I have been with Sammy and Wendelin for as long as I remember, but this has to be her crazest book yet. True Sammy has face badder " bad guys" but none like Justice Jack. Just like all the Sammmy Keyes books it pulled my into her world at the first word, not wanting to let me go until the very end. To the author I say, I can't wait for the next book.

This was interesting. I feel like this was the first book where van Draanen moves the mystery to the back seat, and focuses more on the teenager-ness of Sammy and her friends. While there is still a mystery--there's crazy new "superhero" in town, and his inspiration? Sammy! But what happens when he has to find a missing statue?--it takes a backseat to the changing dynamics between Sammy and her best friend, Marissa.
That shift was oddly welcome. One of the most appealing parts of the Sammy Keyes saga is how realistic she is. Despite all the crime solving, she always feels like a real, living teenage girl. Just, you know, a totally awesome one. Jr. high is such a time of change and flux, and even if you have a solid foundation, that doesn't always mean everyone else does. Here, Sammy's friendships are shaken up, and I have to say. It suits her well. And it plays out so relatably, it's hard not to enjoy the ride.

I absolutely loved this one. I would agree with other reviews that the mystery takes more of a backseat to Sammy's relationships. I can't wait to continue the series!

honestly nice to have a chance in pace of a mystery where no one is in immediate danger and the real criminal isn't even really a criminal. but there were more loose ends in this book than usual - maybe they'll carry over into the next one, but this one just didn't seem as polished. still love sammy (and casey!!! be still my HEART)
