Despite being sports romance girlie this book fell flat for me. I just couldn’t find myself getting invested in Ford and Millie’s relationship or the story. About halfway through I contemplated DNFing because I was so indifferent. I don’t regret reading the whole book because it’s not a bad romance, it just didn’t have me swooning along with the characters. Based on the synopsis I thought it would’ve been more dramatic and emotional. I think this book would’ve benefitted from discussing the characters past more to help build up that connection. It lacked the depth I prefer in second chance romances. That being said this book is a solid football romance.
Graphic: Toxic relationship and Abandonment
Moderate: Pregnancy and Toxic friendship
Minor: Death of parent

I don’t know where to begin. I love DP’s writing but this was super disappointing.
Spoilers below
Another second chance novel where we have a spineless hero that ghosts the heroine because the evil ex gets pregnant. 10 years later he meets the heroine again , he does not grovel , he doesn’t respect her boundries and wants to pick up where they left. Millie was just a doormat that forgot how to function when Ford was in the same room. And of course she “wasn’t like the orher girls” ans she was a guy’s girls 🙄
Joey ( Ford’a daughter ) was also annoying as fuck.
Then we also have Sienna the evil ex Wife that of course makes an appearence just to stir things up.
Adrian is Millie’s ex boyfriend that turns into a villain.
And to finish we get a glimps of Millie’s relationship with her mother and sister, the fact that they basically don’t consider her. We know that she is sad about it and feels neglected but after 2 phone calls , it’s never resolved or metioned again.
I came to che conclusion that DP’s second chance romances are not for me. Her writing is beautiful and she wrote some of my favorites books ( The Outpost , Juniper Hill) but I’m not a fan of her “formula” for second chances.
