There were so many twists and stories within this one book-it almost felt like 3 books in one! The final pages were so emotional and unexpected for me, although maybe I should have better predicted the ending. It’s left arguably ambiguous but with heavy hints of a shipwreck.

Worth it for the writing alone, extremely beautiful!! Charlotte also makes it pretty clear how much she dislikes Catholicism, so Catholics beware.

What the fuck was that ending! No disrespected to Charlotte Bronte because she writes beautifully, but i I really did not vibe with this book. The main character is a door mat who has almost 0 agency in most things she does and just lets things happen to her. I enjoyed the little bits of sass and spirit we got to see of her but they were few and far between. I felt the story tried to be too many things at once, with long exposition on religion and the supposed qualities of people I frankly do not give 2 shits about and who also didnt care for Lucy despite being her supposed "friends". It was way too long and after all that there was basically no point to any of it because she ends up exactly where she started (sad, alone and friendless, just better off financially lol). What a depressing outlook on life jesus. Definitely sticking to my Jane Eyre favoritism at least she had a backbone
