A very good middle school aged/young adult novel, borderline great. Though very brief Freak The Mighty succeeds in its main characters Freak and Max. Freak and Max are memorable and likable and play well as a pair of opposites. There is humor here, fun, and some emotion in a top-notch simple story of two "freaks" who form a special friendship.

I had to read this for school.
At first, this is what I thought: “It was boring, and then it was exciting, and then it was happy, and then it had a sad end.”
For good measure, I read it again. The reason I thought it was boring was probably because I was reading that section exhausted and on a five-hour plane to Alaska. When I re-read it, I liked it. So now, I think this is a touching and hilarious book. Reminded me a lot of R.J. Palacio’s Wonder.

I thought this was a pretty good book, but the ending was sad. I liked it, though.

This is the second time I’ve read this book. Still love it, still makes me cry. I love the juxtaposition of Freak and Mighty and the power of their friendship.

Unfortunately, during my reading of this book I was interrupted by vacation and some other books. Due to these interruptions, it lost the impact I think it could have had on me ... But I definitely would recommend it to boys.

Childrens literature at its best---a little about physical and mental disabilities, a little about SES and hardship, a little about being born into the wrong family, a little about death, and a lot about friendship.
