No ha habido nada de acción. Tampoco me ha hecho gracia. Ha sido casi un suplicio.

Well this took no time at all to read because the plot pulls you along in a manner that is more exciting than teaching a kestrel to play the cello. Thrills, intrigue and top Roman japes all move along so you can almost smell the city off the page. The mystery at hand is perhaps not the most fully developed of such but it helps to fill out the whole painting like a underhanded brush.

The supporting cast get their parts as Flavia's home life gets fleshed out to pick up any slack and give the pages more life and action so thumbs up all round with this series.

I love the series, but I wish I wasn't reading on the Kindle. It is much easier to flip back to the cast of characters in the paper version, and I ended up a little confused on who was who. A great story with loads of regional information on the time, even though the story never gets out of Rome.

With Tiberius incapacitated (hopefully temporarily), Flavia has to solve a mystery at the very top of diplomatic politics.

I found this book a bit more scrambled than its predecessors. I couldn't see a reason why Falco wouldn't be called in as backup, for instance; yes, he hates the Emperor, but the whole empire is in danger, not to mention his own daughter's life. And danger to Flavia is presented with odd flippancy - I know she normally ignores danger, but in this book it's on a whole new level.

Good story but it is quite complicated, do don’t read it if you are tired or find it hard to follow a plot with several characters.

Not my favourite - all
A little too sudden at the end.
