Stayed up till 2am reading this book. I don't know if that warrants itself as praise though, I always stay up too late reading.

As for the actual book, I'd say it's getting pretty good. I think I might be starting to outgrow "actiony" fantasy books. I think this because despite how much I am enjoying reading the book. The characters are pretty decent, and the magic systems are starting to become more fleshed out and interesting. However, despite my interest in the story, it feels lacking. There is nothing much beyond the story. It is just an exciting plot. I do not feel that the world is entirely immersive, I don't get a sense of it's scope, despite the authors many references to the past.

The characters are also a bit too perfect, but this is a problem in many books.

Overall I like it, but it is just a exciting distraction, and I doubt I'd ever read them again, I am looking forward to seeing how it ends though

This awoke some of the magic I loved in some of Lackey's older works. I'm definitely building investment in the characters, and I definitely wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next.

A little too much is solved by the knight mage skills, just knowing stuff. Not on the whole it's good if really much too long.

As always, I am completely in awe of the Lackey-Mallory author partnership. This book was fantastic, though I'm not the biggest fan of Savilla and the scenes which involve the Endarkened planning something. However, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read, and I can't wait to start the third book.

This is one of those surprisingly rare occasions in which I found the second book in a trilogy to be even better than the first. The first book was just enough to keep my curiosity so that I'd delve into the second book to discover what happens next, and boy was I not disappointed. The second book in this trilogy was one I just could NOT put down. Here's hoping the final book can live up to the standards of the first two, and give me a satisfactory conclusion.

The pacing falters a little bit from the first book, some things happen without as much of a satisfying explanation for how and why. But, with how much is in it I suppose it makes sense. Develops the characters and the world very well, and manages to fall into the niche of recognizable fantasy tropes without feeling too familiar, repetitive, or formulaic. A comfortable world to fall into for a while. But, this is the book that got me hooked on the series to begin with so, it certainly deserves some credit.
