Liked the development between Serafina and Mahdi. Also love how surprisingly dark these books are, with the prisoner of war camps. Also loved to see Serafina grow into the commander she was always meant to be.

Loved to see the growth of Serafina and the other characters in this book. I also loved seeing her and her companions rallying together to fight against the evils they face.

Entertaining summer teen fiction read. Sometimes it feels like the story is being drawn out to satisfy the number of books it's supposed to fill rather than moving the plot along.

I love mermaids so much and this series is one of my favourite mermaid books. I found this book a bit more enjoyable than the previous two as it included Ling and I loved her adventures so much.
I love the underwater world Jennifer Donnelly has created and wish I could escape into it.

This 3rd volume of the series was even better than the first two. Donnelly shows us more about each of Sera's mermaid companions, really delving beneath the surface of their motivations and limitations. While the previous novels have had themes of female empowerment, that comes through very strongly in this volume, without being off-putting.
Despite the challenge of keeping ongoing characters, situations, and fears fresh, Donnelly serves up ample mysteries to unravel and new perspectives to consider in moving the 6 merls toward the final battle. I'm excited to see how the final novel will resolve the merls' stories. I have both hope that they will, indeed, succeed where their ancestors failed & a sense of dread that they won't all make it to the end & live happily ever after.
