Still not my favorite, but rereading it with Gail made me appreciate it a lot more than I used too. Yay for buddy reads!

Though I do believe this to be the weakest of the series (from what I can remember, anyway), I found a lot of new appreciation for this story. The Shakespearean plot fits quit snuggly into the world of Narnia, and it is an interesting perspective during the Golden Age area that is glossed over in The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.
I do believe that the depictions of the Talmarian people are not so great, though. It does feel as though they were drawn from a real people group and then made to be cartoony and demeaning. I do not appreciate that depiction.
I also believe that the more political elements of the plot can make the pacing drag a bit in the middle parts of the book. We lose sight of characters for a moment only for them to come back in with a neat bow as to where they were and what they did many times. Nothing wrong with this style of storytelling, but it reads a bit slowly.
Otherwise, I am glad I reread this story. It is better than I remember it being.
