Bree's baby is kidnapped. How far will she go to get him back? The answer is pretty far. This had a decent plot and likeable characters. I enjoyed this, liked the little twist after the resolution, the moral dilemmas, I liked the message near the end. Mostly the storytelling was fine, but boy I think the editor needed to work a little harder to fix some of the prose. I cringed every time I read something was "realer" than something else (three times guys, three times). 3.5 stars rounded up to 4 because this was engaging and enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this page turner but idk about that ending…I feel like Bree got to have her cake and eat it too, the bow was tied up a little TOO neat at the end.

What a ride! This book starts with a bang and never lets up. An interesting plot that's not too predictable or overly dramatic (as far as thrillers go, at least). Some parts rambled on a bit, but great characters with strong voices that keep you gripped until the very end.

A book about revenge.
A book about past indiscretions.
A book about a mother who will stop at nothing to protect her family.

Thought provoking, thriller that shows how your past can haunt you and why you should always be kind and respectful to others.

Didn’t like this nearly as much as her other book I read. Uneven and dense, preachy pacing at times and a story that dragged on to an abrupt, odd ending-2.5-3.

Joshilyn Jackson has been one of my favorite authors since I read gods in Alabama in 2006 as a creative writing student. I can’t count how many times I’ve gone to see her on book tours, and I can’t count how many giveaways I entered to get an ARC of this book. I was so excited to win an ARC from William Morrow and started reading as soon as I got it.

While Jackson used to have some Southern gothic vibes layered on top of quality literary fiction, she successfully pivoted to domestic suspense novels with her last release, Never Have I Ever. The Southern gothic still applies to this genre as well, as she’s as good as ever with Mother May I. The suspense is well done, and it’s impossible to know what’s going to happen because there are so many options. The loose ends all get wrapped up in the conclusion, though, and the payoff is worth it. I can’t recommend this one enough.
