I enjoyed this but it didnt have quite the wow factor of the first book. I was getting a bit bored with it towards the end and almost didnt finish. It did pick up after that and im glad i put the time into finishing it though.

Like I said I had to see it through and the fmc did not get better. He does things to ouch her away for months and she can’t manage some self control. So infuriating! I disliked her so much.

Also I love when books have his POV and for some reason this one just hurt I couldn’t put my finger on it until I realized it’s because it’s soooooo repetitive through the series.. it repeats it almost identically and then in some parts it repeats it again when one of them is remembering.

I wanted to pull my hair out and I feel like my brain checked out in some parts of this book. I just can’t have unfinished books but I suffered. To reinforce the FMC is the worst character I’ve ever read she puts the female race all to shame. WTF?!

The plot peaced out of this one…
Hella toxic relationship ✅
Using sex as a bandaid ✅
Way past the second chance trope and into 4th, 5th and 6th chances ✅

This was the second book in the Dark Love series. It picks up right where 'Chasing Love' left off. This story, like the first, sent me on a world of emotions. Charlie and Lex went through it throughout this book. I kept wondering if they were going to make it especially when their marriage was in trouble during the last like 20% of the book.

Parts of the ending felt a little rushed when it came to solving their marriage crisis, but I may feel that way because I didn't see the struggle coming. I am very glad that these two got their happily ever after.

Also this series has two generations of stories with 13 books total, I didn't know this beforehand, but I'm so into the story and that of those around them that I will be reading the entire series. Especially because the second generation follows their kids.

I can't wait to read book three which follows Lex's sister.

Some spoilers included:

Wanted to love it. Enjoyed parts of it but overall I was left a little angry and couldn’t see how this could ever be a HEA.

Trigger warning - there is SA in this book. It’s two scenes. One with full, penetrative sex during an argument where the fmc is talking about divorcing the mmc. It’s glossed over with an orgasm or two but that doesn’t change what it was. The second is where the fmc is sleeping and the mmc performs oral sex on her and ejaculates over her. It’s not discussed so one can only assume the fmc was fully unaware of what happened to her.
There’s cheating. Not everyone will agree with my opinion about the cheating but for me, what happens between the mmc & his assistant was physical cheating and what happened between the fmc & her ex was emotional cheating.

I love a good dark romance but this was too toxic for me.
Both main characters are frustrating, immature and really bad for each other. What they have doesn’t scream soul mates, it screams desperation to hold on to the past because they are too scared to move on.

I won’t be reading the rest of this series.
