I read this book when I was around 10 years old. I remember loving the fairytale characters and forrest creatures. It was exciting to imagine a whole world beyond this one. Just step through the wardrobe.

I was raised by atheist parents, so the Christian symbolism in this book was completely lost on me. Reading this book as adult was a different experience (of course it would be…child vs adult perspectives). I recognized the similarities of Aslan to Jesus with his sacrifice and resurrection. I noticed sexism in Aslan’s differential treatment between the sons of Adam and the daughters of Eve.

I still liked the book the second time around, but some of the magic is gone.

I read this book the first time for a children's lit class during undergrad. Now, I'm reading it a second time for my masters. Since I'm no longer a stressed out freshman, it's time to read the whole series.

To Narnia!

I have never read this series but did go to see all the movies as a child. I haven’t seen them in many years but based on my memory, the movie does seem to do this story justice. More than justice. I think the movie brings a flat story that has so much potential… alive! Maybe it was the difference of reading as an adult vs watching as a child but I just felt the story was more intriguing with the visuals and magic of narnia in the movie than book.

I've seen this movie a hundred times. I'm so happy I finally had a chance to read the book.

Maybe I am biased because I saw the movie first so my thoughts may be a little backwards. The book was very detailed.. I would have like to have seen more of that in the movie. Having said that, I think the movie was better that the book.

I hadn't read this series since I was 11 or 12, so I'm weaving it into my reading this year. I adore C.S. Lewis, and this doesn't disappoint. I had forgotten that he sometimes steps out of the story and directly addresses the reader, which I found charming. There are a few details that are now dated, but overall the story and the book stand the test of time.
