Terrible writing style, the plot twist comes way too fast and is handled without any grace. Not very good.

Just watch the film.
The short story isn't worth it.

an important message speaking to the struggles of repression, toxic masculinity, and societal expectations traditional gay men face wrapped in a simple story.

It is amazing to me that they made an entire movie out of this little story. The movie provided more to the relationship between Ennis and Jack, but the most poignant moments in the movie were in the book.

A gut-punching, heart-breaking short story. A must read.

3/2/25 - this is my off the rip impressions after reading in one sitting. I think it’s a deeply touching romance between two complicated people in a time where they simply can’t be together. Every moment in this book you can see and feel the character changing so quickly. Moments like their first and last meeting are heartwarming as they are heart breaking. I could really see this being better with more time and reflection.

It could use some more time spent, maybe more romance over the sex, and I would have loved to see more of Ennis after the end. Hopefully the movie is as good.
