A decent continuation of the series. I really liked the new locations and (some of) the new characters, although I did miss a lot of the London characters.
I was pretty frustrated by Paige's belief that Arcturus was a traitor. I get that may well have been the intention but to have it be fairly obvious to the reader, combined with Paige's seeming ability to trust plenty of shady characters (cade) yet inability to trust Arcturus was a bit disappointing as a plot device.

This was somewhere new and different, there aren’t a lot of familiar people around either and I found myself excited but nervous.

The pace was a little slower in parts but when the action was going it was spectacular. I think because of the new people and place, I did feel a little out of place myself, not unlike Paige but I still loved a lot of it! It just took me longer to warm to the story this time around.

However Paris was a character in and of itself, I’m always so excited to see other cities and countries explored when there is a fantasy element. How different is it? Did Paris share the same fantasy elements as we’ve come to know in London? It was so lovely to get to see somewhere new and like in the real world there were culture differences, language barriers but all in all so many similarities. It was so fun to explore!

Warden and Paige, I don’t even know where to begin. Without any spoilers this book is probably the most emotional journey to date for them. I adored watching their relationship bloom and then the reveal at the end was just INSANE. I have a lot of theories and there was definitely teasing for what is to come but wow.

The most interesting thing for me in The Mask Falling was the insight into Paige’s trauma. She has suffered so much and is still staggering her way through, but she is cracking. It felt very real and raw at times and I appreciated those moments a lot.

I still loved this book a lot but it’s my first in the series that I haven’t rated 5/5 that is purely down to the pacing and how it took me time to fall into the book this time around. But the content was still immaculate. The story telling and character growth is really something!

4/5⭐️
