🚨 New Favorite Book of 2023 🚨
Listen y’all, Boy’s Life is one of the best books I read in 2021 and Swan Song is one of the best books I read in 2022. Gone South is great. My point is, Robert McCammon is a fricking genius. If you haven’t picked up something by him yet, please do! And while you may see or hear more about the books already mentioned, I can’t recommend The Wolf’s Hour enough.
*Super brief, spoiler free review*
Love and war, Nazis and werewolves, a death train-this book has everything I didn’t know I needed. The writing style, the alternating timeline, the characters, and the settings-my god, the settings-are absolutely incredible. It’s a beast of a book at around 700 pages, but I never wanted it to end.
Boy’s Life and Swan Song may be the superior works of literature, but The Wolf’s Hour is the most fun I’ve had reading McCammon.
Did I mention the DEATH TRAIN?!? 💀🚂
Chef’s kiss👌🏼 ALL the stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Imagine reading a book where the main character happens to be a womanizing werewolf who ends up between every chick's thighs he stumbles across in between killing Nazis. Right. It takes an amazingly gifted author to actually write this sort of book without turning the whole thing into utter farce, doesn't it? So there.

This story is epic, unique, compelling, action-packed, and is so much more than just a "werewolf" book.

This is a great story about a man who is a spy for the government and happens to be a werewolf. Sounds sort of corny, but it's not. It's fantastic! You will love these characters. Very enjoyable!

Read in Palm form, interesting "spy novel meets werewolves meets love story." A bit violent at times, but compelling.

Wow. What a book.
I mean, it may not be full of "literary value" but it was a hell of a lot of fun. Plus, what great classic has a werewolf ripping out Nazi throats, am I right?
You can judge the book by the cover, in this case. It's the type of book in which, if the main character meets a woman who is described as halfway attractive, you can assume that he'll be having sex with her within 100 pages. It's not all romance though! There are awesome tank battles and a whole DEATH TRAIN sequence that is impossibly rad. The flashbacks to when Gallatin was turned into a werewolf was pretty good. I liked Wictor.
If you like your reading good and pulpy, with a whole lot of excess blood, check this out. I'm already searching the internet for more McCammon books.

It was an exciting read. McCammon certainly knows how to write an action sequence. I enjoyed his take on the werewolf and Michael's past was fascinating. The pacing of the story was a little wonky for me but the story was engaging and exciting.
