This book is funny, whimsical, adventurous, and creative with memorable characters. However, it breaks Branderson’s Law: it uses magic to solve important problems without explaining how the magic works, so it all has a deeply unsatisfying deus ex machina feel.
Moderate: Animal cruelty
Minor: Death and Violence
There’s an awful lot of smoking for a children’s book. Tobacco is an important part of the story. The book glorifies smoking and drinking in a way you don’t normally see in children’s literature and it really wasn’t necessarymanlymangilly's review against another edition

This is my number 1 favorite book of all time. I have read it upwards of 50 times. It is my comfort book that I can pick up and open to any page and start reading. I know this book better than any other and yet I still cry every time I read it, and still feel my heart fill with every chapter. I have never felt so emotionally attached to characters and stories as I do with Tiffany and the feegles. I adore every Tiffany book but as this is the first, this is the one I read the most. It will forever hold a very special place in my heart. I miss Terry Pratchett very much and still mourn the loss of one of the greatest writers of all time. This book makes you laugh, makes you cry, makes you think, and makes you marvel at his talent for writing diverse, loveable, and relatable characters. I will never in my life get bored of this story.
Moderate: Death
Minor: Animal cruelty, Animal death, and Grief
Every difficult topic touched on in any Terry Pratchett novel is done with grace and care. This book is wholesome to the highest degree. However he is talented at pointing out the best and worst of people, and still leaving you feeling hopeful.dhiyanah's review against another edition

What a delight. I'm so glad I finally started the Tiffany Aching books. The chalk downs were a character in and of themselves. I loved Tiffany and Granny and the Wee Free Men. This book is a wonderful imagining of British folklore and fantasy.

Moderate: Animal cruelty, Kidnapping, Grief, and Alcohol
Minor: Misogyny, Sexism, Blood, and Classism
