Jules wants to impress her older sister by building the biggest, fanciest, most excellent sand castle but the ocean keeps getting in the way. Just when Jules is about to give up, her big sister joins forces with her and she learns that the most important part of building the biggest, fanciest, most excellent sand castle is not actually the sand castle itself, but who you build it with. Recommended for prek-2nd grade.

3.5 stars. I love Jessie Sima's illustrations, and this is a nice picture book about resilience that doesn't smack of after-school-special.

Do you ever feel that forces are working against you? Jules tried to impress her sister by building the biggest, fanciest sand castle but the ocean waves keep destroying it. I think I would have loved the colors in this book when I was a kid. A fun, light-hearted beach read.

The illustrations are lovely, but the story about a girl who won't stop building her sandcastles right next to the water is more frustrating than funny.
