Thanks to goodreads giveaways I will get this interesting book! I will update my review upon receipt! Thanks again!

**Update**

The style of the book made it hard to get into but it was overall pretty intriguing. Stick through it and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I received this book as a First Reads giveaway and had a hard time getting into it.
I loved the detail about Marrakesh, the Jemaa and the glimpses into the lives of the storytellers.
I had a hard time, however, holding onto the thread of the story: a missing foreign couple about which we know nothing other than what little is revealed in each narrative about the night of their disappearance.

"The Storyteller of Marrakesh" was a mixed bag for me. I'm enthralled with Morocco, and the book certainly provided a wonderful sense of place, Morocco's citizens, and what it's like to live there. But the story itself was only so-so. It's clear the author had aspirations of writing a story of great insight about truth, beauty, and mysticism. Unfortunately he falls very short. So much of the dialog frequently sounds trite and hackneyed. Nevertheless, I recommend this book for fans of Morocco.
